Set up in the heart of the Karoo Heartlands, you will find Koffylaagte Game Lodge, a private game reserve located 130km from Port Elizabeth. Koffylaagte, literally translated means "Coffee Hollow" and owes its name to its colourful history as the resting place of the early settler traders. The 1870's farmhouse, its decor and artifacts, as well as the ox wagon, that rests outside the Farmhouse, bear testimony to this bygone era and make Koffylaagte is a uniquely South African Game Lodge. This pristine reserve, which is dedicated to wildlife management and breeding programs, has been stripped of all remnants related to its early farming days and has been converted back to its magnificent fauna and flora, becoming a place to rest your mind, body and soul, reminiscent of the days of the early settlers. 
With an abundance of wildlife, some 20 species of South African antelope, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe and Zebra breeding programs, as well as other mammals such as warthog, bush pig, mongoose, fox, porcupine, jackal, meerkat and primates such as baboon and vervet monkey, a large variety of birds, including bird of prey such as the majestic black eagle and the magnificent Karoo flora resembling a natural succulent garden with aloe, euphorbia, spekboom, as well as the protected Cycad and Elephant's Foot, Koffylaagte presents a rich and rewarding visual feast in this 1800 hectare reserve. This TGCSA 4 star graded country retreat lies at the foot of the Karoo Mountain Belt, located between the World Heritage Site of Baviaanskloof and the second largest national park in South Africa, the "Addo Elephant National Park" and offers their visitors day excursions and tour programs called “Heritage Trails”.  |
